Franklin, NC

I along with a large group of hikers came into Franklin, NC today to do some resupply. We were met by a group of trail angles from the Macon County Baptist assioation with coffee, hot cholcholate and lots of yummy sweetes! As we waited for the free shuttle to pick us up we were also greated by a very large storm frount! So after makinging it to Franklin My self, Hedge Hog, Stix, and Bismark ( a friend alng the trail) decided to cram into a hotel room and stay the night to wait out the storm!

The Big news from this most recent section is the compleation of one state (now only 13 to go) and the Completion of the first 100 miles. Both of which are major mile stones in my head!

With the compleation of one state and the entrence in to North Carolina I have learned that not all A.T. matanice is equal! Shelters and Privys ( composting porta potties, but better than an out house) are much less taken care of in NC as compared to GA!

I slept in the Carter Gap Shelter the night before last getting my best night of sleep yet! The shelter is layed out perfectly to get dark inside quickly and keep the wind frorm blowing in all night! On of the best layouts yet, not quite as cool as the Springer or Gooch Gap shelters in design but layout was perfect!

The next few days we hope to start increasing our milage ( right now with two zero days we are averaging 12 miles a day) little by litttle but not too much just yet. Our biggest day so far has been a 16 miler which wasn't too bad!

In the next few days we will be pasiing by the NOC and Fontana ( can't wait for the Fontana hilton!) and then into the smokies where Stix's Wife will me us for a night off the trail and a home cooked meal at the Young Life Retreat center!
