We (myself, Hedge Hog, and Stix) made record time from Gatlinburg to Hot Springs, 66 miles in 4 days! those four days have been our biggest yet! and just in time to get out of the Smokies, the shelters that were over crowed started to begin to feel like dungeons! Check out the awesome view from Charlies Bunion
Mc Donalds Double Cheese Burgers! what a great suprise on a very cold windy night! and the best sunrise eve!
Since leaving the park still no bear sightings, but I am sure that in the next 2,000 miles I might still might have some luck!
Max Patch was an amazing wonderland and a worth while climb for the A.T. It is a bald that overlooks many other mountains in North Carolina. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area with a couple of hours to drive up an make the short hike for the parking lot up to the top! It would be a great star gazing spot or picnic spot, one of my most favorite places along the A.T. yet.
Trail Fest is going on here in Hot Springs which has provided some entertainment to an other wise small sleepy town!
New shoes were in order, since I felt like I had rocks in my shoes for the last 75 miles and after trying on every pair of size 14's or 15's Gatlinburg had to offer to no avail. So I stopped by Bluff Mtn. Outfitters here in Hot Springs to see how small of a selection of size 14's and 15's they had. Luckily they had a couple of pair and one pair even suited my liking! So now I am rocking a new set of orange and gray Montrails. I have also elected to use the insoles that came with the shoes instead of the green supper feet that I was using in hope this will also relieve some of my pain, but the outfitter was very kind and gave me a free pair of blue Super Feet just in case! Dose anybody have any good suggestions for dealing with sore feet? and remember not walking 15 miles a day can not be part of the remedy!
I have added a couple more mail drop location and I or Kaci will post those locations soon as I forgot my guide book before I got here to the Libary to post.
Hopefully in the upcoming miles I will be able to update from Trail Phone (the link in the top right hand corner) as cell service will hopefully be getting better! so be sure to check it out!

Hollywood,
ReplyDeleteI spoke with you briefly as you were filling your water outside of Icewater springs shelter on my way to Charlies bunion.
I'll be following your blog and rooting you on from my desk each day.
Happy Trails!
The bears wil come. I didn't see any in the Smokies either. I saw more bears (six) in NJ than any other state. Also, Shenandoah has a large population.
ReplyDeleteKeep on keeping on. Loving the pictures!
